Little Village hosted it’s first event at Quai des Brumes on January 28, 2023. After months of e-mailing each other back and forth, the stars aligned when Jake Sprecher from Chico, California’s The Wind Ups ( Mount Saint Mountain Records), announced he was coming to Montréal, QC for a visit, and would be open to performing a solo set…

That was the only incentive needed to pull the trigger on booking Quai des Brumes.

Henry G (The Wesleys / Kid Lucifer/ Les Soniques) answered the call to open the evening’s entertainment (on his 27th Birthday no less!) with a solo set of material backed by drum tracks and synth via a laptop. It was a treat to see Henry G perform outside The Wesleys, who killed it a week earlier for Exclaim!’s Class Of 2023 showcase).

The new material sounded thrilling, adding a more post-punk, new wave layer to Henry’s fantastic songwriting sensibilities. By the end of the second song, the laptop melted down. Henry effortlessly shifted gears, offering up a in-the-moment selection of songs including a stripped down version of The Wesleys’ “Wrong Side Of Love” from their debut EP “Outside Voices”.

Jake Sprecher ( Terry Malts, Smokescreens, Jonathan Richman) deserves a medal for not only braving a week of winter in Québec, but for his adrenalized solo performance of songs from his band’s 2021 album “Try Not To Think”as well. The audience were treated to selections from his band’s forthcoming album, “Happy Like This” (Mount Saint Mountain Records)...

Jake didn’t take a moment to breathe, rolling through his catalog with rapid-fire execution.

This stripped-down version of The Wind Ups only amplified the primal pulse of Jake’s songs. We count down the days until his return.

Outside of his duties as drummer for The Wesleys, Jyraph has been steadily releasing self-recorded singles , building an impressive collection of solo work. His work ranges from Spanish language acoustic meditations, to instrumental psychedelic journeys, as well as well chosen covers.

Jyraph closed out the evening with a set was built around a solo performance with his 12 string guitar. By the time Jyraph’s 12 string wove its sound around the room, audience members were ready to dance, giving back some of that magic that hung in the air that night.
