Me, You, and My Metronome (MYAMM) started in the early 2000s with home recordings bridging sojourns in San Francisco and Austin. Throughout the years, MYAMM’s frontman Sakata has sprinkled his recordings with indie hooks and pop sensibilities. Sakata immerses himself in his local neighbourhood and aims to respect and elevate everyday observations with melodies, harmonies, and warmth.

The Red Pipes EP is an allusion to the sprawl of construction in and around Montréal. Songs for the EP were recorded when red plastic pipes were being laid down beneath the sidewalk in front of Sakata’s front door. While invasive and unpleasant to look at, these construction projects around the city remind us of the complex layered world underneath one’s footsteps, the manufactured network that helps the city run. The Red Pipes EP reflects on split-second decisions with lasting effects, witnessing internal struggles caused by the pandemic, banal vacation moments, and household appliances.
